WHY IT’S OK TO CREATE CRAPPY ART

Let me tell you why it's OK to create crappy art when you've got kids waiting at soccer practice for you to pick them up and emails piling up in your already full inbox. (mine is currently at 12,947)

Consider this your permission slip to suck. You don't even need to get this slip signed or fill in 35 insurance numbers, emergency contacts or pay for a sack lunch. This is simply your PERMISSION TO SUCK PERMISSION SLIP!

Look, life is a circus, and you’re the juggler trying to keep everything in the air—kids, work, emails, laundry, dinner, and somehow… creativity?

It’s impossible to be at your creative best when life is coming at you full throttle and you're not even sleeping great no matter how many medicinal gummies and mouth tapes you try.

But here’s the thing: it’s okay to create crap. In fact, giving yourself permission to suck might be the best thing you can do for your creative process.

You don’t need perfect conditions to be creative. Sometimes you’re going to sit down to write, paint, or brainstorm and what comes out will be, well, less than stellar. And that’s perfectly fine! The goal isn’t to create a masterpiece every time. The goal is to just create, period. Because the more you show up—whether the kids are waiting on the soccer field just a little longer tonight or your inbox is blowing up with that thrice weekly (wtf?) email from school—the better your creative muscles get at flexing through the noise. And who doesn't love a good flex. Ya feel me?

So, give yourself permission to create messy, imperfect, B minus work. Crap, garbage, whatever! The masterpiece might not come today (or it may, you never actually know), but the act of doing it—of pushing through the chaos—is where the real magic happens.

Creativity isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up, even when life feels like one giant, hot AF, mess.

Love you,

Shannon
